This week at CVS is a textbook example of how to roll Extrabucks across five transactions. The hook this time: a $50 gift card play in Transaction 1 that hands you a $10 Extrabuck Reward to fuel the rest of the run. From there, you stack BOGO and Buy-X-Get-X-Extrabuck deals through four more transactions to bank $119+ in product (including the gift card) for $55.78 + tax- which means every couponing item rang up for just $5.78.

What Is the Extrabucks Roll?

Extrabuck Rewards are coupons that print at the register when you buy participating products. Each reward acts as dollars off your next purchase.

The trick is to split the run into multiple transactions so each batch's Extrabucks fuel the next one. Do the gift card deal first, use those Extrabucks on Transaction 2, then roll the rewards from Transaction 2 into Transaction 3, and so on. Your out-of-pocket cost gets smaller each step.

This week we roll Extrabucks across five transactions and finish with a near-free cereal play.

Why This Run Works

The gift card is the launchpad. Spending $50 on a gift card you would use anyway is what makes the $10 Extrabuck Reward "free" -- you trade dollars for dollars at face value, plus a $10 bonus.

Transaction 2 is the heaviest lift. Three Extrabuck deals plus two freebie store coupons in one ring-up. This is where the most planning happens.

Each roll shrinks the next out-of-pocket cost. $10 EB on T2, $10 EB on T3, $5 EB on T4, $3 EB on T5. The deals get smaller because the Extrabuck pile gets smaller.

End on a low-EB transaction. T5 generates no Extrabuck, which is on purpose. You want to spend down the rewards, not stockpile them.

Tips for Working a CVS Extrabuck Roll

Check your CVS app the morning of your trip. Personal CVS store coupons can change daily. The freebie cotton pads, free toothbrush, and dollar-off shaving cream are all account-specific.

Load every digital coupon before you shop. The $3 off 2 Garnier, $5 off 3 Softsoap, and $1 off 2 General Mills all need to be clipped in the CVS app or website before checkout.

Watch the Extrabuck expiration date. Extrabucks print with a short window (usually 30 days). Doing all five transactions in a single trip is the safest way to use them.

Pick a gift card you will actually spend. The $50 gift card play only "feels free" if you would have spent that money at Lowe's or Domino's anyway. Otherwise, it is a $50 prepayment.

Watch register limits. Some CVS locations limit the number of Extrabuck-earning items per transaction, per household, or per day. The "buy (1) Sensodyne, get $3 EB" type deals are usually one per household per week.
